Yes, unfortunately the answer to the question "is Twitterfeed really closing" is yes.
Announced officially on their site with the text "Attention: Twitterfeed will be shutting its doors on Oct. 31st. Please transition your account to another service before that date, we recommend Buffer or Dlvr.it. Thanks for all the feeds! [x]" this marks the end of one of the most used feed automation platforms seen on the internet to date. Covering social sites such as Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn with tracking tools the usefulness of the site was more than the sum of its part.
Utilised as a massive time saver to update social announcements via submitted RSS this one was one of my all-time favourite ways to group and send interesting news on various topics.
Granular control of settings allowing some adjustment of the frequency of feed updates to social platforms was another advantage not offered by a lot of the free providers.
The hole that will be left by the closing down of Twitterfeed will be filled by others no doubt.
One of my favourite free alternatives to Twitterfeed is IFTTT (If This Then That) quite possibly the closest in functionality to Twitterfeed although not quite so granular on frequency control. It does offer some advantages of being able to add images to social posts and a wider range of support for other platforms and even apps.
Another free alternative being touted by the Twitterfeed team is Buffer which is akin to a social media assitant offering analytics and scheduling (think Hootsuite)
I'd be interested to see if anyone else has other good alternatives to Twitterfeed in their arsenal, please post here if you do!
