I'm posting on a more personal note today having just received a USB in the mail from Dave Price @ David Price Wedding Films.
Dave was the videographer at my wedding last month, and like many of us in the field of independent production has started out by paying 'his dues'. I reckon we've all done it at some stage, I did it when I first started out in photography and video too. When you are an unknown entity there is nothing for people to gauge you by other than your own proclamation that you can do something.
For a photographer or videographer the ultimate show is your portfolio gallery or demo reels, but how do you get a hire if you are just starting out? You do freebies of course, by giving a free service to interested clients it is an opportunity to build a portfolio to the point where you achieve recognition for your hard work.
Most people love freebies, especially when they are on a tight budget for something - yes 'wedding expenses' I am looking directly AT YOU.
Dave was known to our celebrant who approached us a week out from the big day and said "... hey, by the way I've got this guy Dave who has just started producing wedding videos and is offering a free highlights reel of your wedding if he can use it publicly as a reel, are you interested?"
Of course I was interested, I know exactly where Dave is coming from having done it myself so I appreciated his position ... plus, you know ... freebie!
If you enjoyed the reel please feel free to help out Dave by leaving a nice review for him over on his Facebook Page. If you are lucky enough to live in NSW, Australia you might even be able to book Dave for your event.
