That's my disclaimer.
This is totally not my normal thing. I never thought I'd ever attempt it.
After all, my staple genres have always been fast cars, fast planes and glamour. These were my comfort zones and I rarely stepped outside of these niches.
However life events can occasionally give you little opportunities (quite literally) and the arrival of my baby girl was the catalyst to giving it a shot.

With a couple of cheap props off eBay and armed with the organisational advantage of personal access and knowing when feeding time would be (hence the ultimate in compliant shut-eye posing time for this little human) I managed to get off a couple of reasonably presentable shots to make some thank-you cards for our obstetrician and midwives.
I do have friends who do this genre of photography as a living and am well aware that my efforts pale significantly in comparison with some of their work. However how could I lay claim to being any sort of photographer without at least wanting to try it out for myself?
A new genre for me to consider? I don't think so.
Whilst enjoyable on a small scale personal level I am not sure I would enjoy the logistics involved to do this regularly. Hats off to people who do this stuff all the time though, there would have to be a magical balance of timing and personality involved in working with newborns and their parents. At the very least I can say I gave it a go myself and have the memories in my images as keepers.
The wife did suggest I keep all the props 'just in case' for the 'next one' so maybe I'll be dipping my toe into the genre a little further yet
